SICKKIDS LOTTERY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. If I win the VIP**, Early Bonus or Early Bird Prize do I still qualify for the other prize draws?

    Yes. Every winning ticket goes back into the draw so you can win more than once.


  2. If I win a car can I accept the cash value instead?

    Yes, the cash alternative amount for vehicles can be taken. Cash-out values are as follows: VIP Draw** Vehicle: 2008 Toyota Camry (CASH VALUE is $30,000); Final Draw Vehicle #1: 2008 Maserati Quattroporte (CASH VALUE is $145,000); Final Draw Vehicle #2 2008 BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si (CASH VALUE is $60,000); Final Draw Vehicle #3 2008 Mini Cooper Clubman (CASH VALUE is $25,000).

  3. How long does it take to receive my ticket?

    You should receive your ticket within approximately 2-4 weeks after the order is placed.


  4. Can I buy a ticket if I do not live in Ontario?

    The lottery is intended for Ontario residents. Tickets can be mailed to addresses outside of Ontario, but you must be IN the province of Ontario when you purchase your ticket.


  5. How old to you have to be to purchase a ticket?

    You must be at least 18 years old at the time of purchase. Tickets cannot be purchased in the name of a minor.


  6. What are the odds of winning?

    Odds are calculated by dividing the number of tickets available by the number of prizes to be awarded. All Ontario charity lotteries state their odds of winning based on this equation. The odds of winning are approximately 1 in 3†. Industry practice in calculating the odds are to take the number of tickets sold, divided by the number of prizes. Every ticket is eligible for each draw. “Your best chance to win a million*” & “Best odds in Ontario*” statements are the opinion of the licensee based on information available to the licensee on health care lotteries in the greater Toronto area at the time of printing.


  7. How much does a ticket cost?

    Tickets are $100 each. Packages of three tickets are available for $250 each and packages of six tickets are $450 each.


  8. How can someone purchase a ticket(s)?

    There are three ways to buy a ticket:

    Call
    the toll-free telephone number 1-877-528-KIDS (5437) or (416) 650-2037 in the greater Toronto area, and order your ticket(s) by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express).

    Mail
    a completed ticket order form along with your payment by cheque, money order or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express). Mailing address is: SickKids Lottery, PO Box 34309 STN Brm B, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 6A1

    located in the Slaight Family Atrium of The Hospital for Sick Children between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays).The hospital is located at 555 University Avenue in Toronto.

  9. Will a charitable tax receipt be issued with the ticket?

    No. According to Canada Revenue Agency regulations, charity lottery ticket purchases are considered entertainment, not a direct donation. Therefore we are unable to issue a tax receipt for ticket purchases.


  10. How many tickets will be sold and printed?

    85,000 will be sold and 4,450 will be awarded as Early Bird prizes, for a total of 89,450.


  11. How will the winners be notified?

    The VIP Draw** Winner, the Early Bird Package Winner, vehicle winners and the Grand Prize Winner of $1 Million in cash will be notified by phone and mail. All other prize winners will be sent an official notification letter. Their names will also be published on the SickKids Lottery website on August 15, 2008. On the same day an advertisement will appear in the Toronto Star, highlighting the major prize winners and reminding ticket holders where they can go to learn whether or not they have won a prize.


  12. What if I lose my ticket?

    You do not need your ticket to claim your prize. Your name, address and phone number are recorded in the database along with your ticket number, which is proof enough. If you would like a replacement ticket, please call the customer service number at 1-888-501-KIDS(5437) or 416-514-2121 in the greater Toronto area.


  13. Why can't I buy my ticket online?

    The current rules governing Ontario charitable lotteries prohibits the online sale of tickets.


  14. Can I get a complete winner's list?

    On the SickKids Lottery website (www.SickKidsLottery.ca)
    By calling 1-888-501-KIDS (5437), or in the greater Toronto area (416) 514-2121 after August 15, 2008 to check a lottery number.
    By requesting a complete list from SickKids Foundation.

  15. How do I claim my prize?

    You will receive a letter from SickKids Lottery providing you with the exact details on how to claim your prize. All prizes will be shipped free of charge to the prize winners address. If you have not received a letter by September 5, 2008, please call Customer Service at 1-888-501-KIDS (5437), or in the greater Toronto area (416) 514-2121. Major prize winners will also be contacted by phone and arrangements on claiming their prize will be made.


  16. How many prizes will be awarded?

    The total number of prizes to be awarded is 20,401.


  17. What is the total prize value?

    The total value of all prizes is $4,439,068.75 inclusive of all applicable taxes and freight.


  18. What are the deadlines for the ticket sales?

    Tickets must be purchased by midnight, Thursday, April 25, 2008 to be eligible for the VIP Draw**. Tickets must be purchased by midnight, Thursday, May 30, 2008 to be eligible for the Early Bonus Draw. Tickets must be purchased by midnight, Thursday, June 26, 2008 to be eligible for the Early Bird Draw. The final ticket sales deadline is midnight, Thursday, July 11, 2008 to be eligible for the grand prize and remaining final draws.


  19. Who cannot purchase a ticket?

    Members of the SickKids Foundation Board of Directors, Lottery Advisory Committee and Foundation staff; members of the Hospital for Sick Children Board of Trustees and Executive Team; employees of registered gaming suppliers; and members of the same household of each of the above, are not permitted to purchase tickets.


  20. What is your privacy policy?

    SickKids Foundation respects the privacy of its lottery supporters; we do not sell, rent or trade our supporter lists. The information we collect is used to process lottery ticket purchases, keep our supporters informed about the activities of the hospital and Foundation, and ask for their support for our mission to improve children's health. If at any time you wish to be removed from our contact list, call us at 416-813-6166 and we will accommodate your request.
